Empowering vulnerable rural communities through skill building, forming women’s collectives and accessing government resources

women

Founded in 1979, the Integrated Rural Community Development Society (IRCDS) has been a steadfast advocate for economically vulnerable communities in Shivgangai district of Tamil Nadu. Over the decades, IRCDS has spearheaded impactful initiatives, from forming women’s collectives and leading environmental conservation efforts through tree plantations, to establishing family counselling centres to address social welfare.

In partnership with government stakeholders, IRCDS identifies critical challenges and ensures effective grassroots implementation. Trusted deeply within the community, they connect marginalized groups to vital government schemes, supporting their economic and social empowerment. Their initiatives include forming Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Groups, equipping women with microcredit, skill training, and access to government resources. They also champion child rights by reducing dropout rates among children from marginalized groups and ensure TB patients receive healthcare and compensation for nutritional needs.

IRCDS’s long-standing presence has empowered them to transform women’s collectives into a robust federal structure, enhancing leadership and fostering self-sustainability. Their holistic approach continues to drive meaningful change at the grassroots level.
